📖 Editorial · Why Sunlit Island is the most important 1.1 addition
If you only read about one part of the 1.1 patch, make it the Sunlit Island. Most patches in a gacha-action game add what you would expect: a new banner, a few balance tweaks, maybe an event. NTE 1.1 does all of those, but the new island region is the first real test of whether Hotta and Perfect World are committed to open-world depth or whether the launch zone of Hethereau was the ceiling.
Here is the short version. The island is roughly the size of a single Hethereau district, but it is significantly denser in collectible content and storytelling per square meter. Within a smaller footprint than Hometown West you get nine self-contained mystery records, three new co-op activities (a vehicular battle royale, a photo-and-note social system called Beika Notes, and a region anomaly boss), around thirty treasure chests, twelve "21's Gifts" tied to the Hometown vendor questline, eight oracle stones, and the seven-day Thirteen Day Awakening event chasing Lacrimosa across both old and new zones. None of it competes for the same currency. None of it is gated behind a banner you have to pull. All of it is permanently in your account once you clear it.
That last point is the thing players new to gacha-action sometimes miss. Limited banners come and go; permanent regions stay. Skipping a banner costs you a character you may never see again; skipping a region costs you Annulith, materials, and a piece of the story the rest of the game will keep referencing. If your weekly hours are limited, the Sunlit Island gives more long-term value per hour than the Porsche banner does, even though the Porsche banner is louder in the marketing.
Who should prioritize the island first
There are three honest audiences here. New players who started during the 1.0 → 1.1 transition should explore the island in week one — the exploration milestones drop a meaningful amount of Annulith, and the early Beika Notes social engagement gives you free Beika Jam currency that's used in the side shop. Returning players who quit during the launch tutorial should restart on the island map rather than backtracking through Hethereau, because the new puzzles assume nothing about your story progress beyond the 1.1 opener. Veteran F2P players hunting Lacrimosa pulls should treat the island as their primary Annulith farm for the first ten days of the patch — it pays out more reliably than the open-world dailies in Hethereau because the chests have not been swept by your previous playthroughs.
How to plan a single play session
A dedicated three-hour session is usually enough to clear roughly two-thirds of the island's permanent content if you ignore the time-gated mystery records. The recommended order: take the ferry from Hethereau's harbor, follow the coastal path north to clear the chest cluster at North Beach, climb to the cliff for the photo spot, then loop south through the central clearing where the Golden Tree mystery record sits. Most chests and oracle stones are clustered along this loop, so a single-pass walk hits about eighty percent of them. The Bonfire and Beach Anomaly mystery records require specific in-game times of day, so plan a second short visit at in-game dusk.
What to avoid
Two traps. First, do not waste your daily stamina inside the island anomaly boss arena until your team has the Lacrimosa-era 4-set module farmed. The boss has a Chaos-affinity weak spot that's much easier with the new region's signature Arc — and that Arc drops from the boss itself. Farm the materials first, fight the boss after. Second, the Car Battle Royale activity is fun but does not drop region-progression items. Treat it as casual content, not as a way to fill your patch checklist.
